I now only use online solutions so can work from anywhere and love the freedom that brings. I am however looking for an office as close to home (I hate commuting and still want to do school runs) as I can get one which massively limits my options. The major reason being the stigma attached with working from home which means I miss out to the bigger accountancy firms that have the office.

While I am looking for an office it needs to be more than just an office which is why we are getting a massive place which we can turn into a business centre with hot desks for start up and small businesses who can work and mingle with like minded people.

Until this is set up though I am enjoying the freedom I get from working at home and write this while sitting in my pants.

It’s important to remeber though that your working from home and not living at work! Some times you can find yourself at your computer 14 hours in wondering where the day has gone! Although this might be due to the fact that im working for myself. So every hour I spend in front of the screen benifits me not somebody else.

Have to suspect in a lot of cases that it’s jealousy…I’d love to be able to work from home!

There is also something nice about being bale to go into the office and meet with your friends/colleagues face-to-face but its not critical to your work production and as stated if you have a problem with trusting your staff you have hired the wrong people.

I’ve no idea why there is such a stigma attached. They think we just sit around all day commenting on things that we find on the web.
My wife and I run our business together using the internet. We live 15 country miles from the local pub/shop/bank and we use Google Drive, Zopim and Kashflow 😉 to maintain our global business. Thanks to companies like these, anything is possible.

OK, I don’t think it’s suited to everyone but actually it can be a better option. I suffer from ME and as I write this comment I’m stuck in bed with a chest infection, but I’m still managing to work. Physically going to work in an office environment would be near enough impossible for me and thank God I CAN work from home. It’s a pretty outdated view to be critical of working from home.
