The point here is that Mamut E5 is not an accounts program, and probably should not be offered as an upgrade path from MYOB. It is a full business management system, which includes accounts, but also CRM and sales management, marketing, warehousing, e-commerce, POS, etc.

I did wonder about the mandatory service agreement, but in hindsight, having used Mamut E5 for 12 months, it is such a complex package that it should not be used without support, and preferably plenty of consultancy during migration.

Mamut replaced Sage 50 for us, and also replaced our CRM program, E-marketing software, point of sale and helpdesk system, allowing us to serve all these functions to our customers from one package. The customer contact card within Mamut gives any of our staff a complete overview of the customers account, documents and emails, support issues, projects, etc. If we had to move back to Sage 50 we would be unable to function as we are now.

At the same time the accounting, while fairly solid, is far from intuitive and can be confusing. It is best suited to businesses with an accounting technician, and not the average self employed businessman.

In summary, Mamut E5 is best suited to the small and medium business who wants to drive productivity in all areas with a single solution. Anyone buying this just for book keeping will find it cumbersome, over complicated and really not best suited to the task.

You can’t compare it with MYOB, Quickbooks, Sage50 etc. It is more on the level with SAP Business One, Sage200, etc.

Maybe Mamut provides more for it’s users – it certainly provides more for it’s shareholders having sold out to VISMA for 80 million sterling in July 2011!
“Needs Analysis” be damned this was a profit making move and nothing else.

Well, I’m completely impartial here as I’m in the process of trialling KashFlow and an trying to see where I stand with MYOB account edge 2008 on the mac IF I upgrade to the new OS X Lion system (ie. will it still work?).

If I purchase a piece of software whether it be Office or Photoshop I believe it should be mine to use. KashFlow, to be honest, I’m still not too sure about as once again it’s a monthly charge. Take Office for example, which is a piece of very highly developed software often used on a daily basis but they don’t take a service charge do they? What I am sure however, is that I’m not interested in updating via Mamut.

Why? Because I’ve already paid once and don’t expect to pay again. And again via a service agreement/annual charge that I know I won’t need.

I’m a small business that processes many small unit invoices with a large stock. Come on guys – I really really do not want yet another standing order drain on my finances.

This is basically an attack on Mamut and Bryan away from the forums from what I can tell Duane?

We have migrated customers successfully and happily I will provide testimonials if you like Mamut is not KashFlow and vice versa but then KashFlow is accounting software and Mamut is so much more.

Unfortunately some clients have been sold Mamut and maybe the needs analysis could have been more thorough and for this there is no excuse but steps are being made to ensure this is not repeated.

I am sure some people will miss you now you have stepped down from UKBF
